Tester Votes No on Tax Giveaway that Adds $1.5 Trillion to National Debt

Senator Blasts Legislation that was Drafted in Secret and Without Public Input

(U.S. Senate)-U.S. Senator Jon Tester today voted against a secret tax giveaway to the wealthy that increases the national debt by adding nearly $1.5 trillion to the deficit.

“Hard-working Montanans deserve more than a bill drafted in the dark of night, that saddles our kids and grandkids with more crushing debt. Sadly, Washington dysfunction has hit a new low and Montana families and small businesses deserve better than this.”

The Congressional Budget Office reported today that this bill will add nearly $1.5 trillion to the deficit.

The bill was brought to the floor for amendment votes less than two hours after being released to the public and included hand-scribbled text in the margins. Tester blasted the process in a social media video that subsequently went viral.
