Tester statement on key water legislation becoming law

(U.S. SENATE) – Senator Jon Tester today issued the following statement after the Water Resources Development Act was signed into law:

“Clean water builds stronger communities. This bill makes a needed investment in rural Montana by strengthening water systems, helping communities plan for disaster and creating jobs. I’m pleased all sides were able to come together to enact this important bipartisan law.”

Tester and Senator John Walsh recently helped secure two Montana provisions in the Act that would restore headwater floodplains and invest in watercraft inspections to prevent the invasion of aquatic species.

Tester also successfully fought to include language for the following projects:

  • Lower Yellowstone River – modifies study requirements to increase public participation in the process
  • Rural Western Water – reauthorizes a regional program in multiple states, including Montana, to provide water infrastructure assistance.
