Tester statement on groundbreaking of MATL line

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – U.S. Senator Jon Tester released the following statement in response to today’s groundbreaking of Montana-Alberta Tie Ltd.’s (MATL) 214-mile power transmission line:

“The Montana-Alberta Tie Line is more than a link between two countries.  It’s a link to a more secure energy future.

“As we continue to harness the power of renewable energy, we must keep investing in the infrastructure needed to get clean electricity to the marketplace.  Doing so will put folks to work.  It will expand Montana's economy.  And it will serve as a model for future energy projects across the country.

“In the United States Senate, I will keep working with the Department of Energy to get shovels moving on more projects like this.”

The MATL project will create Montana jobs with significant funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
