Tester: Long term federal highway trust fund solution needed
WASHINGTON, DC – The federal highway trust fund helps keeps money and traffic moving in Montana, but it’s going to run out of money in August without Congressional action.
The U.S. Senate approved a measure on Tuesday to keep the fund solvent through the end of the year, while the U.S. House of Representatives has already passed a measure to keep the fund solvent through May.
Federal spending on roads in Montana is about $400 billion a year.
“We must provide a long-term solution for funding the highway trust fund. It is critical for maintaining our road, our bridges across Montana and creating jobs,” Sen Jon Tester said.
