Tester Statement on U.S. Economy Adding 850,000 Jobs in June

Senator: encouraging jobs numbers are “a welcome sign our economy is getting back on track”

U.S. Senator Jon Tester today released a statement following the positive news that U.S. employers added 850,000 jobs in June:

“The U.S. added 850,000 jobs in June, a welcome sign our economy is getting back on track and that the targeted relief provided by the American Rescue Plan is giving local communities and small businesses the support they need to get folks back to work. But our work isn’t done yet, which is why I am fighting to pass my bipartisan infrastructure package that will create even more jobs while improving Montana’s roads and bridges, broadband, airports, and water infrastructure. These investments will benefit every Montanan and allow us to better compete against China well into the future.”

After leading weeks of negotiations between a bipartisan group of his colleagues and the White House, Tester and the bipartisan group last week struck a deal on a once-in-a-century infrastructure package to create good-paying jobs by making urgently-needed investments in Montana’s roads, bridges, broadband, water and more.

Tester was the only member of the Montana delegation to support the American Rescue Plan. He worked tirelessly to ensure the COVID relief bill provided targeted resources that will have a tangible impact on Montana’s economy and ensure that anyone who wants a vaccine can get one—especially those who bravely served our country. The bill ensures local mayors have the resources to keep cops and firefighters on the beat, schools can fully re-open safely, and it provides badly-needed relief for hard-hit Montana workers and small businesses, along with fulfilling former President Trump’s promise of $2,000 in direct payments for every American earning less than $75,000.
