Tester Votes for President Trump’s U.S. Customs and Border Protection Commissioner

Senator: We Need a Comprehensive Strategy to Secure Both our Northern & Southern Borders

(U.S. Senate) – U.S. Senator Jon Tester issued the following statement after voting to confirm current Acting Commissioner Kevin McAleenan as permanent Commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP):

“Mr. McAleenan and I agree that we need a comprehensive strategy to secure both our northern and southern borders. I will continue working with him to deploy the right combination of technology, barricades, and good old-fashioned manpower to strengthen our borders and stop the flow of drugs, human trafficking, and other potential security threats into the United States.”

As Ranking Member of the Senate Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee-which sets funding levels for CBP-Tester met with the President in January and has taken the lead on bipartisan border security negotiations in the Senate. He has also introduced a bill to address the CBP’s staffing shortages along the northern and southern borders.
