Tester Statement on Confirmation of Three VA Nominees

During Veterans Day Week, Senate Confirms Nominees Tasked With Veterans’ Burials, Appeals Backlog, Modernizing VA

(U.S. Senate)-Ranking Member of the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee Jon Tester offered his support for three nominees to serve veterans at the VA.

The nominees are tasked with ensuring veterans receive proper burials, reducing the backlog of disability appeals and modernizing the VA’s operations.

“We need strong VA leadership to help implement the bipartisan reforms we’ve passed into law this Congress,” said Tester, Ranking Member of the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee. “Millions of veterans and their families are counting on these folks. I will be holding them accountable to deliver quality care and benefits to our veterans.”

The nominees confirmed today include:

  • Randy Reeves, Undersecretary for Memorial Affairs
  • Cheryl Mason, Chairman of the Board of Veterans’ Appeals
  • Melissa Sue Glynn, Assistant Secretary for Enterprise Integration

Mason will oversee the Board of Veterans’ Appeals, and will be instrumental in the VA’s implementation of Tester’s Veterans Appeals Improvement and Modernization Act, which reforms the process for a veteran to appeal their disability rating. It was Tester’s sixth bill to be signed into law by President Trump.

Tester previously screened each nominee before the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee and met privately with each to review their resumes and ask them tough questions.
