Tester Champions Civil Liberties, Opposes Pompeo for CIA Chief

Senator Casts Vote for Montanans’ Right to Privacy

U.S. Senator Jon Tester issued the following statement opposing Representative Mike Pompeo’s appointment to be the Director of the Central Intelligence Agency:

“The type of bulk data collection Representative Pompeo has advocated for fails to protect law-abiding Montanans’ right to privacy. We must strengthen our national security, but we do not have to sacrifice our civil liberties in the process. We can have a safe nation that respects our fundamental freedoms. Both are possible.”

Tester spoke on the Senate floor in opposition to Pompeo’s nomination earlier today. Video is available in the link above.
