Capital High School student accepted into West Point following Tester’s nomination

(U.S. Senate) – Senator Jon Tester announced today that the prestigious U.S. Military Academy in West Point, N.Y. has accepted Capital High School Student Robert McCarvel into the Class of 2020.

Tester nominated McCarvel to attend the Academy last December.

Tester, Montana’s only member of the Senate Committee on Veterans’Affairs, called McCarvel personally to congratulate him on his acceptance.

“On behalf of all Montanans, I would like to thank Robert for his willingness to wear the uniform. I have no doubt that Robert will serve with distinction, and continue to make Montana and the rest of America proud,” said Tester.

McCarvel said it has been his lifelong dream to be a military officer.

McCarvel maintains a 4.0 GPA at Capital High School in Helena, he is involved in National Honor Society and is a member of the varsity football team. He also has a Black Belt in Taekwondo.

He is the son of Russell and Jacki McCarvel of Helena.

McCarvel is the fifth student nominated by Tester to be accepted into a service academy for the Class of 2020.
