Tester: House’s GMO labeling bill ensures producers never have to label

(U.S. Senate) – Senator Jon Tester released the following statement after the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Act :

“If GMO producers were proud of their product, they’d be labeling it already, and the House’s bill ensures they never have to. This bill undermines states who want to empower consumers with more information, and it prevents American families from knowing where their food comes from.”

Tester introduced the Genetically Engineered Food Right-to-Know Act that requires labeling of genetically engineered food. Currently there is no federal requirement for companies using genetically engineered ingredients to disclose that information on ingredient labels.
