Tester statement on trade promotion authority

Senator Jon Tester issued the following statement after voting against a proposal to allow the President unilateral authority to negotiate international trade agreements, known as trade promotion authority (TPA):

“Allowing Congress to give up its seat at the table on international trade deals is a mistake and undermines our responsibility to stand up for America’s middle class families. Congress needs to do more to grow Main Street’s economy by making long-term investments in infrastructure that give small businesses much needed certainty.”

TPA passed the Senate with a 62-37 vote.
