Tester: House Homeland Security bill ‘threatens our national security’

(U.S. Senate) – Senator Jon Tester today released the following statement after voting against the U.S. House bill that threatens to shut down the Department of Homeland Security:

“This bill is completely irresponsible and threatens our national security. Congress has an obligation to keep the Department of Homeland Security running so we can secure our borders. Hundreds of Customs and Border Protection employees and TSA workers in Montana work hard every day to keep us safe. Now, many may be forced to stay home or work without pay – all because House Republicans want to play politics instead of securing our country.”

Every former DHS Secretary – two Republicans and one Democrat – has called on Congress to pass a clean DHS funding bill. Without a funding bill, the Department of Homeland Security will shut down on February 28.
