Tester reminds young Montanans to apply for military academy nominations

Senator: Military needs best and brightest, teaches important skills

(U.S. SENATE) — Senator Jon Tester is reminding Montana students interested in serving in the Armed Forces to apply for military academy nominations.

A nomination from Tester is the first step in applying to attend the U.S. Air Force Academy, the U.S. Military Academy, the U.S. Naval Academy or the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. Tester chooses nominees based on their academic achievement, leadership, community service and participation in extracurricular activities.

“I am proud of the talented, hardworking young leaders who serve Montana and the United States with honor,” Tester said. “Young folks with dedication and commitment to public service are our future. I hope more young Montanans think about a career in the service and the lifelong skills and experience it will provide.”

Montanans interested in applying for a military academy nomination are encouraged to do so online at Tester’s website.

To qualify, students must be:
• Between 17 and 23 years of age (25 for the Merchant Marine Academy)
• A U.S. citizen and a permanent resident of Montana
• Unmarried, not pregnant, and free of legal obligation to support children or other dependents

You can reach the Senator Tester’s nomination coordinator by calling (406) 449-5401.
