Tester statement on nomination of new VA Secretary

(BIG SANDY, Mont.) – Senator Jon Tester – a member of the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee – released the following statement after the President nominated Robert McDonald, a veteran and former CEO of Procter & Gamble, to serve as the next VA Secretary:

“The VA needs a strong leader who will put veterans first by increasing access to care and rebuilding the public’s trust. I look forward to hearing Mr. McDonald’s ideas about how to increase transparency at the VA and deliver the high-quality, timely health care and benefits that our nation’s veterans have earned.”

McDonald graduated from West Point and served in the U.S. Army. His nomination is subject to approval by the Senate. The Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee will first hold a hearing and vote on the nomination, then it will go to the Senate floor for a full vote.
