Tester statement on Baucus nomination

(U.S. SENATE) – Senator Jon Tester today congratulated fellow Montana Senator Max Baucus on being nominated to be the next U.S. Ambassador to China:

“For nearly 40 years, Max has been a dedicated public servant for the people of Montana. With his years of service on the Finance Committee and deep knowledge of U.S. trade policy, Max will be a tremendous representative for the American people in China. I will miss his leadership and partnership in the Senate, but I know he will continue to serve Montana and the nation to the best of his ability.”

Baucus was first elected to the House of Representatives in 1974 and to the U.S. Senate in 1978. He is a long-time member and the current chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, giving him in-depth knowledge of American trade policy.

Baucus would replace outgoing U.S. Ambassador to China Gary Locke. Baucus’ nomination is subject to a confirmation vote by the Senate.
