Tester: Ryan plan still ‘unacceptable’

(U.S. SENATE) – Senator Jon Tester today released the following statement regarding Representative Paul Ryan’s budget plan:

“The Ryan budget ends Medicare as we know it, puts an unacceptable burden on the middle class, and relies on smoke and mirrors to make its numbers add up.  I’m ready to work with serious folks from both parties to protect Social Security and Medicare and make responsible decisions that put our nation on the path to long-term economic prosperity.”

Ryan’s budget plan cuts Medicare, reduces access to affordable health care, cuts support for college students, and sells off public lands.

Tester backs a budget plan that follows the framework of the Bowles-Simpson plan to reduce the federal debt.

Ryan is the Chairman of the House Budget Committee.
