Tester tours Butte homes built by AmeriCorps Volunteers

House of Representatives’ spending plan eliminates AmeriCorps funding

(HELENA, Mont.) – Senator Jon Tester today toured a project of houses in Butte being built with help from Montana’s AmeriCorp volunteers.

AmeriCorps is a volunteer service organization that provides Montana with nearly 20,000 volunteers who will perform over 770,000 service hours this year alone. But a recently introduced House of Representatives’ spending plan eliminates funding for AmeriCorps.

“AmeriCorps engages youth in community service and does a lot of good for folks in Montana,” said Tester. “AmeriCorps is a responsible initiative that teaches valuable skills, a solid work ethic, and makes a difference in Montana communities.”

Butte residents are expected to move into the homes in late September. The project was funded by Habitat for Humanity and the National Affordable Housing Network.
