Baucus, Tester respond to Mike Horse Dam settlement

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – Senators Max Baucus and Jon Tester released the following statements in response to today's announcement that the State of Montana and the U.S. Forest Service have reached a $37 million settlement with ASARCO and Arco to clean up mining wastes below Mike Horse Dam in the Blackfoot River.

Statement from Senator Max Baucus:

"I'm working to do what's right for Montana's outdoor heritage and I'm proud to say I was among the first to call for full removal of the Mike Horse Dam," said Baucus. "You can bet Senator Tester and I will continue to push this issue until the water and land here are clean and the dam is gone. We can have clean rivers to fish in, beautiful land to hunt on and a strong economy and good paying jobs waiting for us when we come home."

Statement from Senator Jon Tester:

"This is a double dose of good news for Montana.  This money will make Montana's blue-ribbon fishing and world class hunting even better—especially for our kids and grandkids.  And the cleanup of the Blackfoot in the years ahead will bring good jobs to our state."
