BAUCUS, TESTER ANNOUNCE BUTTE EDUCATION TRAILBLAZER TO LEAD PRESTIGIOUS GOLDWATER FOUNDATION

Senators Congratulate Dr. Frank Gilmore on Appointment to Goldwater Foundation

(Washington, D.C.) – Montana’s U.S. Senators Max Baucus and Jon Tester announced today former Montana Tech Chancellor Dr. Frank Gilmore has been named President of the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation. Baucus and Tester supported the appointment which was just formally approved by the President. Dr. Gilmore is only the second person to hold the title in the Foundation’s 26 year history.

“Frank has been a tireless advocate for students and improving higher education opportunities in Montana. I have no doubt he’ll take that Montana work ethic and passion for education to the national level. Frank will be a tremendous asset to the Goldwater Foundation and is making our state proud to see one of our own recognized with this honorable post,” said Baucus, who partnered with Gilmore and Montana Tech for several Montana Economic Development Summits.

“Frank’s experience  and dedication make him the right person for the Goldwater Foundation,” said Tester, who recently delivered the commencement address at Montana Tech.  “As a chemist and as an educator, Frank spent a career preparing the next generation of scientists and engineers and I congratulate Frank on his appointment.”

“I’m thankful to everyone who supported me for this position – especially Senators Baucus and Tester. America’s strength in math, science and engineering , the disciplines for which Goldwater Scholarships are awarded, is a critical part of our security and economic wellbeing,” said Dr. Gilmore.

The Goldwater Foundation was established in 1986 in honor of former U.S. Senator Barry Goldwater with the goal of providing college scholarships in math, science and engineering fields.
