Tester statement on Rocky Boy’s flooding

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – Senator Jon Tester today released the following statement as residents of Rocky Boy’s Reservation and across north-central Montana face substantial flooding due to heavy rains:

“This weekend, the flooding in and around Rocky Boy’s created a desperate situation.  Sharla’s and my thoughts and prayers are with the families forced out of their homes, and with communities that have seen significant damage to roads, buildings and water systems.

“As we work to assess the damage and start rebuilding, my staff and I stand ready to offer any support we can to the Montanans in need.  I’ll keep working with tribal leaders and federal agencies to make sure resources get to the affected areas.”

Rocky Boys’ officials declared a flood emergency this past weekend and many residents were evacuated in the wake of heavy flooding.

Initial reports indicate dozens of flooded homes and washed out roads on the Rocky Boy’s Reservation and in surrounding areas.
