Tester: Small business tax cuts will ‘make a real difference’ in Montana

Legislation among several recent laws to create jobs, strengthen small business opportunities

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – Senator Jon Tester today released the following statement after the Small Business Jobs Act, passed by Congress earlier this month, was signed into law by the President:

“These tax cuts for small businesses and incentives to jumpstart private capital are responsible steps that won’t add a penny to the deficit, but they will make a real difference for Montana’s small businesses and for folks looking for work.

“From infrastructure investments to tax relief we are rebuilding our economy using common sense—putting folks back to work and boosting business across Montana and rural America.  But after years of failed economic policies, we’ve still got a lot of work to do.  I’ll keep doing my part to create jobs and strengthen business opportunities for Montana.”

The Small Business Jobs Act cuts taxes for small businesses by more than $12 billion without adding to the national debt.  The legislation also boosts small business lending and helps business owners access private capital to hire new workers.

The Small Business Jobs Act is the latest law passed by the Senate in recent months to grow small businesses and boost jobs in Montana and across the country. 

Other legislation previously passed by the Senate aimed at boosting small businesses include:

• Significant tax cuts and fee waivers for small businesses included in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act
• Tax credits for small businesses to help cover the cost of health insurance for employees
• Infrastructure investments across Montana, funded by the Recovery Act, which are offering contracting opportunities for small businesses
• Transparent investments in physical and human infrastructure, public safety, and research and development secured by Tester from his seat on the Appropriations Committee

Tester has also hosted several well-attended Small Business Opportunity Workshops across Montana in the past year to help the state’s small businesses boost job opportunities for Montanans.
