Tester response to President Obama’s address to Congress

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – Senator Jon Tester released the following statement in response to President Barack Obama’s address to Congress:

“After eight years of failed policies that doubled our national debt and put our economy in the ditch, we need a smart plan to get our country back on track.  We’ve already passed a Jobs Bill that will put thousands of Montanans and millions of Americans back to work rebuilding our long-term infrastructure.

“We still have a lot of challenges ahead, such as addressing our financial crisis, our health care crisis, and our housing crisis.  But every challenge comes with opportunity to make our country a better place for our kids and grandkids.  Specifically, Montana is well-positioned to play a leadership role securing our energy future with renewable resources like wind and solar power, geothermal energy and bioenergy.  Renewable energy will create good jobs in Montana now and enable sustained economic growth over the long haul.

“Congress can’t afford to vote against jobs, tax cuts and opportunities for Montana businesses and working families.  President Obama understands that putting politics aside and working together to do what’s right is the best way to move forward.  I look forward to working with him and Senators from both political parties to pass common-sense policies for long-term prosperity in the 21st Century.”
