BILLINGS -U.S. Senator Jon Tester meets with Supreme Court nominee Merrick Garland and said its time for Congress to do its job.

Tester said he spoke to Judge Garland about several subjects, from upholding the second amendment and protecting civil liberties, to reforming campaign finance laws.

Tester said it’s been 57 days since Garland was nominated to the Supreme Court. Since that day, Tester said Republicans have refused to hold a hearing on the nominee, in spite of the Constitution stating the Senate must advise and consent on the nominee.

“I’ve had my meeting with Garland now it’s time for the public to have theirs,” Tester said. “The American people should have an opportunity to vet Judge Garland through a public hearing. Unfortunately, Senate obstructionists are once again refusing to do their jobs. If Congress operated like a business, the employees would have been fired weeks ago.”

KULR-8 reached out to U.S. Senator Steve Daines about Tester’s meeting with Garland and the Supreme Court nomination.

“In the last few months of Obama’s term, Montanans do not want to see another lifetime appointed liberal that will decide the balance of the U.S. Supreme Court for the next generation,” Daines said.

This week, Tester launched his #DoYourJob social media campaign. Tester said it highlights hard working Montanans who juggle multiple jobs and are frustrated with the Senate’s refusal to do one job.
