U.S. Sen. Jon Tester (D-MT) is attacking a campaign mailer that that arrived in Montana this week and linked to faculty at Stanford University and Dartmouth College, calling the mailers “apparently part so-called research project that uses Montana elections as a political laboratory experiment.”

In a letter to presidents of Dartmouth and Stanford — sent as part of a project by political science professors at the two schools — Tester calls the mailers “misleading” and seeking to “inject partisanship into non-partisan Montana Supreme Court elections.”

The mailers arrived in mailboxes this week and are labeled as “2014 Montana General Election Voter Information Guide” and use the official Seal of the State of Montana.

Tester says that the universities may have violated state and federal law. He also demands the universities disclose all funding sources for the mailers.
