HAVRE – A U.S Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee held a field hearing in Havre on Friday.

The meeting focused on how federal, state, and local officials can strengthen security and promote trade on the Canada-Montana border.

Seeing how current collaborations were going, and if security is working now, were some of the other topics at the meeting.

U.S. Senator Jon Tester (D-MT) noted that manpower and technology combined is critical to achieving a successful plan with border patrol.

“I feel the most important aspect to protecting our northern border is simple communication.” He added, “Our local border patrol agents provide a high degree of training and skill sets,” Hill County Sheriff Don Brostrom said.
