Tester Statement on Anniversary of September 11th Attacks

U.S. Senator Jon Tester, Chairman of both the Senate Veterans' Affairs Committee and the Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense, today released the following statement in recognition of the 20th anniversary of the September 11th, 2001 terrorist attacks:

"Twenty years ago today, our country was forever changed as we watched the horrific attacks of September 11th take the lives of thousands of Americans. In the face of tragedy, America showed the world a country united in our values-and we held our enemies accountable. Now, we face our most critical task: living up to the promises made to the men and women in uniform who answered the call of duty to defend our nation. As we take on new challenges, let us always remember that we are stronger together, and let's recommit ourselves to honoring our first responders, servicemembers, veterans, and countless other brave Americans who made the ultimate sacrifice on behalf of our freedoms."

Following the United States military's completed withdrawal from Afghanistan, Chairman Tester expressed his unyielding support and gratitude in a bipartisan letter to veterans of Afghanistan and their families. The Senator highlighted the U.S. military's achievements over the course of the War on Terror, and thanked those in uniform for their ongoing efforts with past and present Congresses and Presidential administrations to ensure Afghan partners who worked and fought alongside U.S. forces are not left behind. He also reaffirmed his commitment to working with the Department of Veterans Affairs to meet the emerging needs of veterans who served in Afghanistan-ensuring they receive the care, benefits, and support they have earned.
