Tester Secures $750,000 for Water System Improvements in Harlowton

Funding provided by the Water Resources Development Act to bolster water infrastructure in Wheatland County

U.S. Senator Jon Tester today announced that the City of Harlowton will receive a grant of $750,000 in Water Resources Development Act funds to replace existing water mains in their water system.

"Montana communities are in critical need of up-to-date, reliable water and wastewater systems, and Harlowton is no exception," said Tester. "This investment is an important step toward a water infrastructure that will improve conditions for Harlowton's families and small businesses for decades to come."

The City of Harlowton's water distribution system is primarily comprised of aged iron water lines. The Water Resources Development Act grant will provide funds to replace these outdated lines, which have resulted in 50% of water loss over the last three years. Local government has been working nearly 10 years to upgrade Harlowton's water system.

Tester has worked diligently to maintain Montana's water quality and to provide vital public infrastructure projects with the funding needed to stay up-to-date. He recently secured $7 million for Hardin to make improvements to their wastewater system, and $335,000 for Wolf Point and $533,000 for Scobey to update outdated water mains. He secured nearly $3 million for Whitehall, Sweet Grass County, Whitefish, Cascade County, Seeley Lake, Sanders County, and Toole County. Additionally, he secured an additional $2 million to make upgrades to Geraldine's water system.
