Tester Secures $240,000 for Water Systems Improvements in Whitehall

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers provides funding for Whitehall Treatment Plant

U.S. Senator Jon Tester today announced that Jefferson County will receive $240,000 for improvements to the Whitehall Treatment Plant.

“Whether it’s for our crops, our livestock, or our families, clean water is critical to Montana’s frontier communities,” said Tester. “This investment will help Whitehall improve conditions for small business owners, farmers, and families, giving them access to clean, drinkable water.”

This funding will be used to install an ion exchange treatment system to remove uranium and arsenic from the water supply as well as replace existing wells with infrastructure that produces from an aquifer that meets drinking water standards. The funds will also support construction of raw water transmission pipelines to connect the new wells to the new treatment system and a water pipeline to connect the treatment and distribution systems.

Tester has worked diligently to supply Montana water systems with funding to stay up-to-date. He recently secured more than $6 million to update water and wastewater disposal infrastructure in Simms, Broadview, and Absaroke, and he secured an additional $2 million to make upgrades to Geraldine’s water system.
