Tester Delivers Win for Missoula Kids

Senator Announces $2.8 Million For Missoula Head Start

(U.S. Senate) - As part of his ongoing mission to give every child a chance to succeed, U.S. Senator Jon Tester today announced a $2.8 million grant for Child Start, Inc. a Missoula-area Head Start program.

"A great education starts at the beginning, and Head Start gives kids a chance to reach their highest potential," Tester said. "Public education is a cornerstone of our democracy and entering school ready to learn is the best way to take advantage of that. This grant will help make sure Missoula kids have every resource they need to be successful."

Head Start provides educational enrichment to low-income children between three years-old and Kindergarten. The funding comes from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Tester, a former elementary school teacher and School Board member, has been a longtime champion of early education in Montana.

In a major win for early childhood education, Tester worked with Republicans and Democrats to secure $9.8 billion for Head Start initiatives across the country this year.

Tester has also secured similar grants for Butte, Anaconda, Great Falls, Vaughn, Conrad, Shelby, Cut Bank and CSKT Head Start initiatives in the last year.
