Tester Announces Nearly $2 Million for Havre Head Start Classrooms

(U.S. Senate)-U.S. Senator Jon Tester today announced that the Northern Montana Child Development Center will receive nearly $2 million to fund their classrooms next year.

"Early childhood education is vital to the development of our kids and grandkids across the Hi-Line," Tester said. "These resources will help ensure our next generation of leaders are put on a path to success and can reach their full potential."

"District 4 Human Resources Development Council is proud to be able to continue providing high quality early childhood education through our Early Head Start and Head Start classrooms known as the Northern Montana Child Development Center," said Samantha Clawson of the Northern Montana Child Development Center. "We hope to be able to expand our programming to support much needed services for our service area of Hill, Blaine, and Liberty Counties. We'd like to thank Senator Jon Tester for his continued support of our program and for Early Childhood Education in Montana."

The Northern Montana Child Development Head Start and Early Head Start classrooms will receive $1,956,775 to fund early childhood education for local families. Tester secured the funding for Havre's Head Start Programs through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Head Start and Early Head Start cover five major components: education, health, nutrition, parental involvement, and social services. The Northern Montana Child Development Center accepts children ranging in age from newborns to five and serves families in Hill, Blaine, and Liberty Counties.

In addition to preparing children for kindergarten, Head Start and Early Head Start provide complete health and nutrition screenings, and work with parents to develop childrearing skills.
