Tester Invites Air Force Secretary Heather Wilson to Montana

Senator: It’s Important to Get a Firsthand Look at Malmstrom & MANG

(U.S. Senate) – U.S. Senator Jon Tester today invited Air Force Secretary Heather Wilson to Montana to meet the men and women carrying out some of the Air Force’s most critical missions at Malmstrom Air Force Base and the Montana Air National Guard’s 120th Airlift Wing.

Tester made the invitation during a Senate Defense Appropriations hearing.

“I want to thank both of you for being here today, and I want to thank the people that you represent that aren’t here today for their commitment to this country,” Tester told Secretary Wilson and Air Force Chief of Staff General David L. Goldfein at today’s hearing. “I want to invite you both to Montana, to come see Malmstrom and the 120th at your convenience. We’ll show you some of the best people, some of the most committed people that we have-but I’m a little biased on that.”

Tester voted to confirm Wilson last May and met one-on-one with Wilson earlier this week to discuss Air Force priorities ahead of today’s hearing. As a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittees on Defense and Military Construction, Tester has worked closely with Wilson and her predecessors to replace Malmstrom’s Vietnam-era helicopters, update America’s intercontinental ballistic missile systems, modernize MANG’s fleet of C-130s, and expand the base’s aircraft apron.

In 2016, Tester received the Department of Defense Medal for Distinguished Public Service from former Secretary of the Air Force Deborah Lee James for his work to bolster America’s national security and his efforts on behalf of men and women in uniform.
