Tester Votes to Protect Free and Open Internet in Montana

Senator Passes Bipartisan Resolution to Guarantee Access to World’s Greatest Source of Information

(U.S. Senate) - U.S. Senator Jon Tester issued the following statement after voting for legislation to protect net neutrality:

"Without this legislation big corporations can block Montanans from accessing the world's greatest source of information. When Washington bureaucrats repealed net neutrality, they threatened Montana's students, small business owners, and farmers. This bill will restore a free and open internet, putting businesses, classrooms, and health care just a click away."

Tester's bipartisan resolution will void the Federal Communications Commission's decision to repeal net neutrality, reinstating rules to keep corporations from throttling websites and imposing unnecessary fees.

Today's vote also advances Tester's #ConnectMT initiative, which seeks to connect folks across Big Sky Country-both online and in person-by investing in Montana's roads, bridges, broadband, wifi, cellular and landline infrastructures.

Tester's resolution passed the Senate 52-47 and will now go to the House of Representatives for a vote.
