Tester Secures Nearly $1 Million for Railroad Infrastructure Upgrades in Shelby
(U.S. Senate)-Senator Jon Tester helped secure nearly $1 million today to upgrade travel infrastructure and improve railroad safety in Shelby.
"Montana's Hi-Line relies heavily on railroads to transport grain, oil and passengers across our state," Tester said. "This funding will make sure Shelby's train station and railway crossings are safe for vehicles, pedestrians, and passengers alike."
Specifically, the funding will go toward improving the safety and handicap-accessibility of Shelby's Amtrak station, while also upgrading pedestrian and vehicle crossings throughout the town.
"On behalf of Shelby and all its residents, we're deeply appreciative of this new grant funding," said Larry Bonderud, the Mayor of Shelby. "It will go a long way toward connecting the City of Shelby and the State of Montana by ensuring safe, reliable Amtrak service throughout our region."
The funding comes through the Department of Transportation's (DOT) Railroad Safety Infrastructure Improvement Grant Program, which helps maintain the safety, reliability, and efficiency of America's railway infrastructure.
In April, Tester supported the Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development Appropriations Bill that makes significant investments in rail safety and encourages the expansion of Amtrak services along the Empire Builder route.
