House Passes Tester’s Bill to Honor Montana Medal of Honor Recipients
(U.S. Senate) - Senator Jon Tester issued the following statement today after the House passed his bill to rename the Great Falls Armed Forces Reserve Center after two of Montana's Congressional Medal of Honor Recipients, Captain John E. Moran and Captain William Wylie Galt.
"Captains Galt and Moran are shining examples of Montana's long history of service to this nation," Tester said. "By honoring them in this way they will serve as inspirations to the thousands of men and women continuing our state's legacy of service and sacrifice."
The House passed the bill today, after the Senate unanimously passed the bill earlier this month.
Moran was Captain of the Army's 37th Infantry during the Philippine-American War. He was awarded the Medal of Honor on June 10, 1910 and died in Great Falls on November 7, 1930.
Galt was Captain of the Army's 34th Infantry, deployed to Italy during World War II. He was killed in action on May 29, 1944 and posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor in 1945.
