Tester helps secure four more years of funding for Libby asbestos clinic
Grant will support cancer screening and treatment
(U.S. Senate) - Senator Jon Tester, a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, helped secure funding to screen and treat residents exposed to asbestos in Libby.
Tester pushed the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to approve a four-year grant worth $10 million for Libby's Center for Asbestos Related Disease (CARD) to provide asbestos disease and lung cancer screening, outreach and education for residents affected by asbestos exposure.
"Libby is one of the most beautiful communities in America, and what happened there is a tragedy that will take years to recover from," Tester said. "This critical grant will ensure that Libby's asbestos clinic can keep doing good work providing residents with the critical care they need."
The HHS Grant will provide $2.5 million annually to the Libby Center for Asbestos Related Disease for four years.
Tester recently met with representatives from Libby's CARD clinic to discuss health care and asbestos treatment.
