Tester, Daines honor Montana Medal of Honor recipients

Montana’s Senators introduce a bill to rename Armed Forces Reserve Center in Great Falls after Montana heroes

(U.S. SENATE) - To honor the service of two Montana Congressional Medal of Honor recipients, Senators Jon Tester and Steve Daines have introduced legislation to rename the Armed Forces Reserve Center in Great Falls the "Captain John E. Moran and Captain William Wylie Galt Armed Forces Reserve Center."

Captain John E. Moran served in the Philippine-American War and was awarded the Medal of Honor in 1910. He was later elected County Clerk and Recorder of Cascade County.

Captain William Wylie Galt was born in Great Falls and served in World War II. He was awarded the Medal of Honor in 1945 after he was killed in Action in Italy in 1944.

"Montanans are deeply grateful for the service of Captain Moran and Captain Galt," Tester said. "Renaming this facility ensures their courage will be forever remembered and serve as a reminder of the sacrifices that all our service members make for our state and nation."

"We can never truly repay the sacrifices of two Montana heroes, Captain Moran and Captain Galt, but naming this facility ensures that Montanans never forget their selfless service," Daines stated. "This facility will stand as a testament to the strength and heroism of our fellow Montanans who gave so much for the freedoms we hold dear."

"The extraordinary actions of Captain Moran and Captain Galt while serving our state and nation so many years ago, continue to be reflected in the core values and characteristics of today's Montana National Guard and Reserve men and women," said Major General Matthew Quinn, Adjutant General for the Montana National Guard. "Memorializing these two heroic Soldiers in such a significant way reminds us again how, as Americans, we never forget the service and sacrifices of all of our service members."

The building cannot be renamed without an act of Congress.
