Tester announces $322,000 for infrastructure upgrades for Butte Silver-Bow wastewater system

(U.S. SENATE)-Senator Jon Tester today announced $322,000 in an Army Corps of Engineering grant for Butte Silver-Bow to upgrade local wastewater infrastructure.

Tester, a member of the Appropriations subcommittee that funds water programs, supported Butte-Silver Bow’s infrastructure project. The community applied for this grant, which is made possible through the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) Section 595 program. The grants can be used to upgrade wastewater treatment facilities, water supply infrastructure, environmental restoration, and surface water resource protection and development.

“Access to clean water is critical to the health of our communities,” Tester said. “Making vital investments in our wastewater infrastructure will improve wellness and boost economic development for the folks in Butte.”

“We are thrilled at the announcement of this award,” said Butte-Silver Bow Chief Executive Matt Vincent. “This will allow us to construct a vital improvement to our community’s wastewater collection infrastructure serving our university, Montana Tech, as well as the citizens on our West Side. Providing increased service and capacity is directly related to Montana Tech’s and our community’s ability to grow.”

The program supports investments in rural water infrastructure and was created in 1999. The grant requires a local match of 25 percent from Butte Silver-Bow.
