Baucus, Tester: Carbon, Stillwater Counties to receive more than $350,000

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) Carbon and Stillwater Counties are about to expand their domestic and sexual violence services, thanks to a grant announced today by Senators Max Baucus and Jon Tester.

The community-based nonprofit Domestic and Sexual Violence Services of Carbon County will use the $369,271 grant to coordinate efforts within Carbon and Stillwater Counties to implement and expand cooperative efforts to improve investigation and prosecution of domestic violence, enhance direct services to adult and teen victims of domestic and sexual violence, and develop new and enhanced community based domestic and sexual violence education prevention strategies.

“These kinds of resources help keep our communities strong,” Baucus said. “I am pleased to see this money go to Carbon and Stillwater Counties because it will make a big difference for a lot of folks.”

“This is good news for south-central Montana,” Tester said. “We owe it to our communities and all of Montana’s families to provide top-notch investigation and support in cases of domestic and sexual violence.”

Baucus was a cosponsor and key author of the original Violence Against Women Act of 1994, which helped to establish crisis services and hotlines for domestic abuse and rape intervention. VAWA has made far-reaching changes in the criminal justice system to protect women who are victimized.

The grant was awarded through the U.S. Department of Justice.
