Tester introduces credit card legislation

Senator Jon Tester outlined plans to protect people from the predatory credit card companies. Tester introduced legislation to outlaw the practice of "universal default." That's when a company changes the terms on your credit card based on activity on your other credit cards.

Tester grilled bank representatives during today's committee hearing. He said too many credit card companies are taking advantage of people -- especially young people.

"It's not fair -- it's not right, and it's not the way the programs should work. People are getting into people's pockets by making it darn easy to sign up for these things. And then if they make one mistake, they put the boots to them," Tester said.

Tester's legislation is part of a larger bill that bans predatory credit card company practices and protects consumers.
