The office of Sen. Jon Tester, D-Mont., announced Friday he secured secured more than $1 million for Head Start programs on Rocky Boy’s Reservation.
The $1,007,749 secured will fund initiatives that prepare Native American children for the classroom, including education programs, nutrition and health care screenings, and afterschool activities.
“Our next generation deserves to be put on the right path to success. Head Start gives students and families the tools and resources they need to thrive, and this grant will help make sure more children at Rocky Boy enter the classroom healthy and ready to learn,” Tester, a former teacher and Big Sandy school board member, said.
Tester also helped secure an increase in overall Head Start funding in an appropriations bill in December. That bill funded Head Start at $10.6 billion, a $550 million increase and new record number in Head Start funding, a release from Tester’s office said.
In November, he announced that the Havre Head Start program was receiving a more than $1 million grant for its operations.
