Tester hosts town hall in Great Falls

By: MTN News, Margaret DeMarco

U.S. Senator Jon Tester (D-MT) was in Great Falls on Monday to hear from Montanans about several topics.

Attendees asked about the recent repeal of net neutrality, FEMA funds being used to help fight wildfires, and tax reform.

There were also questions about Veterans Affairs and funding for Medicare.

Cascade County Commissioner Jane Weber asked about how the new tax reform will affect funding for agencies at the local and federal level.

"With less money coming in there is going to be programs that are going to be cut. I don't know why Social Security is called an entitlement. Speaker Ryan says he is looking for entitlement reform to pay for the tax bill, just to make that clear. That means potentially Social Security, Medicaid, and Medicare would be reduced," Tester said.

Tester went on to say people who utilize these agencies need a hand up and it is important to fund these.
