What does health care reform mean for
Working Montanans?

Is it true that my health care benefits are now taxed?

  • No.
    • No tax will go into effect until 2018.
    • At that point, only plans costing more than $10,200 per year (or $27,500 per year for families) will be taxed.
    • And only the value above those thresholds will be taxed -- not the value of the entire plan.

What if I work for a small business?

Tax credits are available to all small businesses to help insure their employees, giving negotiators more flexibility during bargaining.

How can I afford health insurance when times are tight?

  • The new law will slow the runaway rise in health care costs. It also:
    • caps out-of-pocket costs,
    • ensures more bang for your buck by requiring insurance companies to spend more on patient care and less for profit,
    • allows young adults from working families to remain on their parents’ or guardians’ plan up to age 26.

Health Care Reform
  • Ends deductibles and co-pays for preventative care
for seniors this year, for everyone by 2018
  • Caps out-of-pocket costs
  • Stops insurance companies from dropping coverage for illness
  • Ends discrimination based on pre-existing conditions
  • Allows Americans access to same health care as members of Congress
  • Saves hundreds of billions of dollars in the long run
  • Includes zero tax increases for 95 percent of Americans
  • Strengthens Medicare
  • Completely protects veterans' and military benefits
