Tester takes leadership role on key Appropriations subcommittee

Senator’s new subcommittee oversees funding for VA, military construction

(U.S. Senate) – Senator Jon Tester today became Ranking Member of the Senate Appropriations subcommittee charged with funding the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Tester’s Appropriations Subcommittee on Military Construction and Veterans Affairs also oversees funding for construction projects at U.S. military installations, including Montana’s National Guard facilities and Malmstrom Air Force Base in Great Falls.

“Montanans serve in our nation’s military at one of the highest rates in the country, and we promised to take care of veterans and their families when they return home,” Tester said. “On this subcommittee, I’ll make sure Montana veterans – and all veterans – can access the resources they need.”

Tester will also serve as Ranking Member of the Senate Indian Affairs Committee, and he will retain his seat on the Appropriations, Banking, Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, and Veterans’ Affairs.

“In order to represent all of Montana’s interests I’ve got to have a seat at the table, and that’s why my committees are so important,” Tester said. “Whether supporting veterans and Indian communities, protecting our civil liberties, or ensuring Montana’s small businesses can easily access capital, I’ll continue to use my leadership role to help move our state forward and empower Montana’s working families”

Tester’s five committee memberships are the same memberships he held in the previous Congress.
