Tester, Walsh hail announcement of job training grants

Montana lands $5 million in workforce development funds

(U.S. SENATE) – Senators Jon Tester and John Walsh today hailed the U.S. Department of Labor’s announcement that it will be awarding Montana with more than $5 million in job training grants.

“Even though Montana’s unemployment rate is lower than the rest of the nation, there is still a need to retrain workers for our 21st Century economy,” Tester said. “These grants will help put folks back to work so they can provide for themselves and their families.”

“Expanding job training helps workers find good-paying jobs so that they can stay in Montana,” Walsh said. “Providing services and helping people re-enter the workforce will give them the tools they need to succeed in today’s competitive job market.”

The funding will support on-the-job training, apprenticeships, occupational training and career coaching. The grants will focus on connecting laid-off workers and the long-term unemployed with jobs.

The grants are made available through the Workforce Investment Act. On Wednesday, Senators Tester and Walsh joined 93 other Senators in voting to reauthorize this initiative.
